History made: mandate given for Kahnawą:ke justice system
02/04/2010
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawą:ke is pleased to announce that the Justice Commission has been given the official community mandate to proceed with the creation of a Kahnawą:ke justice system. The announcement was made at the conclusion of yesterdays hearing, which was held at the Moose Lodge. It is the first piece of legislation to use the Community Decision Making Process, which was designed to create Kahnawą:ke laws using direct community input. Three community representatives were chosen to take part in the drafting process: Chris Bush Diabo, Jeremiah Johnson and Dale Dione. Three alternates will be chosen at a later date. Now comes the heavy lifting, said Justice Portfolio Chief Mike Bush. We have to get buy in from parts of the community that have shied away for whatever reason. The drafting process will begin shortly.
