Iroquois Caucus to host Citizenship and Membership Conference

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to inform the community that several chiefs and technicians will be attending the Iroquois Caucus citizenship and membership conference being held in Ottawa today (Wednesday) and Thursday, 17-18 Enníska/February. Entitled “Legacy or Choice: Determining Our Citizenship,” the conference will include discussions on several related topics, including the McIvor Ruling; Rights-Based Approach to Self-Determination; Citizenship and Status Indian Act Processes; the proposed Matrimonial Real Property Act; and the Modern Problems Associated with Traditional Membership Practices. Chiefs Mike Bush, Carl Horn, Martin Leborgne, Johnny Montour and Kahsennenhawe Sky-Deer will be attending. They should be returning to the office on Friday. Chiefs Leborgne and Montour will discuss the conference on the K103 Partyline Talkshow this Friday (19, Enníska/February) at 12 noon.
