2025 Alcoholic Beverages Control (ABC) Board Election Notice

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke wishes to announce that an election process is currently underway to fill seven (7) vacant seats on the Alcoholic Beverages Control (ABC) Board. Marnie Jacobs has been appointed as the Electoral Officer for the 2025 election, with Lindsay Leborgne serving as the Assistant Electoral Officer. Both individuals bring valuable experience and knowledge of Kahnawà:ke’s community and governance systems and will oversee the nomination and election process.

Nomination Day will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at Tóta Ma’s Café from 9am to 12 noon. The Electoral Officers will be on site to receive formal nominations and answer community questions.

Election day will take place on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at the Golden Age Club from 10am to 3pm.

In accordance with the ABC Law, Nominees must:

  • Be a Mohawk of Kahnawà:ke listed on the Kanien’kehá:ka of Kahnawà:ke Registry
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Have no direct or indirect interests in any enterprise that manufactures, distributes, transports, or sells alcoholic beverages within the Community of Kahnawà:ke
  • Be willing to be publicly presented to the Community of Kahnawà:ke as a candidate
  • Be nominated and seconded by two (2) Mohawks of Kahnawà:ke
  • Be willing to serve a two (2) year term of office

  • Transfer Depot will be closed
  • Recycling, compost, and cardboard pickup service will continue as usual

Regular office hours will resume on Tuesday, June 23rd, at 8:30am.

Waste Management services are as follows:

  • There will be NO Recycling and Compost collection
  • No cardboard drop offs
  • The Transfer Depot will be closed – regular Transfer Depot hours resume on Saturday, July 4th
  • Household Garbage collection will continue as usual

 

All essential services will remain in operation.

Regular business hours will resume at 8:30am on Monday, July 6th.
