2025 Annual KEPO Tree Give Away – May 9, 2025

On May 9, 2025, the Kahnawà:ke Environment Protection Office (KEPO) hosted its annual Tree Giveaway, an event that continues to grow as a meaningful way to connect with the community. This year’s event also featured a compost and seed giveaway, with the Waste Management department setting up a booth to promote composting and sustainable practices.

Promotion for the event was done through Facebook and Instagram, a Facebook event page, and a live call to K103.7 on the day of. Community members were invited to stop by the KEPO office to pick up free trees and planting instructions, meet the team, and learn more about the department’s work in a welcoming, low-pressure setting.

Despite the rainy weather, the event sparked some great conversations. KEPO staff spoke with attendees about their programs and upcoming events, while WM shared information on how composting works and how to use compost effectively in gardens. While turnout for compost was lower due to the rain, feedback was very positive. Community members expressed pride in the compost produced locally, and Waste Management received four new requests for compost bins following the event—an encouraging sign of growing interest in the organics collection program.

Looking ahead, KEPO plans to host next year’s event in a larger space. This will give folks more room to stop, chat, and spend time getting to know the team and their activities a bit better. Thanks to everyone who helped make this event a success – KEPO is already looking forward to next year!
