The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to inform the community that Ratsénhaienhs Jeffrey Diabo is currently in Quebec City attending a series of important meetings and discussions on behalf of Kahnawà:ke.
Among these engagements is the First Nations Major Projects Coalition (FNMPC) Regional Engagement session for Quebec, held on November 2nd at the Hilton Québec. The session introduced the work of the FNMPC to prospective members in Quebec and featured the Coalition’s environmental tools, its critical minerals value chain report, and its clean energy strategy. Ratsénhaienhs Diabo’s participation allows Kahnawà:ke to gather first-hand information on major project, environmental, and clean energy matters that may affect our lands, waters, and future economic interests.
Ratsénhaienhs Diabo is also attending the AFNQL Chiefs’ Assembly (November 3 to 5, 2026) to convey Kahnawà:ke’s position regarding the phased withdrawal of its already limited participation from both the Assembly of First Nations (AFN) and the AFNQL. Agenda items of relevance to Kahnawà:ke include:
- Regional Justice Strategy for First Nations in Quebec – proposed vision
- Child and Family Services file – update, and the five-year review of An Act respecting First Nations, Inuit and Métis children, youth and families (C-92), including the final consultation report and its recommendations
- Chiefs Advisory Committee – Health and Social Services Governance Process
- Education Portfolio update – regional education agreements, application for judicial review, and the university project
- Parliamentary update – federal bills affecting First Nations (S-2, C-10, C-37, and C-39)
- Kebaowek First Nation v. Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission – Federal Court of Appeal decision, and the legal challenge to the Canada–Quebec agreement on caribou protection
- Roundtable on Constitutional and Referendum Initiatives
- Draft resolutions and motions
As addressed, the transition will occur in phases to ensure continuity, fulfillment of existing commitments, and appropriate representation throughout the process.
Diabo is scheduled to return to the community on Thursday, November 5, 2026.
