Public Service Announcement

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawake (MCK) wishes to inform the community that Don Patrick Martin has been appointed as a community representative on the Kahnawake Justice Commission (Commission).

The appointment was passed by consensus and formalized at the duly convened Council Meeting held on Monday, September 23, 2024. Mr. Martin’s appointment is for a three-year term ending Thursday, September 23, 2027.

The Commission is mandated to provide oversight to Justice Services by monitoring its activities in matters concerning the administration of the Kahnawà:ke Justice System. It is also mandated to ensure that the integrity of the Kahnawà:ke Justice System is protected and defended.

As per section 12 of the Constitution of the Kahnawà:ke Justice Commission, the composition of the Commission will consist of:

  • Commissioner of Justice (non-voting);
  • one (1) member of a judiciary; and
  • two (2) community representatives.

There had been only one (1) community representative appointed to the Commission. The second spot had been vacant following the resignation of Mr. David A.
