Public Service Announcement

The Kahnawake Environment Protection Office (KEPO) and the Public Safety Division (PSD) of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawake wish to inform the community that an above ground stockpile containing soil and fragments of Asbestos Containing Material (ACM) will be removed from the Territory between Monday, February 12, and Friday, March 1.

The material was stockpiled during the initial removal of materials from the Lot 106 area. It is located on SLS Lands adjacent to the Seaway Road. Dump trucks will access the site via the Service Road along the boundary of Sainte-Catherine and the Seaway Road.

All appropriate safe handling and transportation measures will be in place, and ACM loaded on trucks leaving the work site will be covered. Representatives from the consulting firm Sanexen, PSD, and KEPO will be on-site to oversee the work.

This work is being entirely funded through a federal program. During this time, community members accessing the Seaway Road are asked to be mindful that heavy trucks will be on the route.

For questions or comments, please contact KEPO at 450-635-0600.
