New Synthetic Turf at Kahnawà:ke Sports Complex

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke Sports and Recreation Unit (SRU), in collaboration with Club 24 Athletics Foundation (Club 24), is pleased to announce the installation of a new Synthetic Turf in the Kahnawake Sports Complex (KSC) for the upcoming lacrosse season.

Club 24 provided a proposal to SRU to consider installing Synthetic Turf and conducted a survey with the parents of the Kahnawake Minor Lacrosse Association. With 90% approval, SRU accepted the proposal to install the Turf in the Sports Complex. The Turf is being installed today, Tuesday, May 14th, and is expected to be ready for use for scheduled practices tomorrow.

“We are excited to be able to partner with Club 24 to offer our lacrosse players the opportunity to practice and play on a professional grade turf,” said Sports and Recreation Director Roiatate Horn. “The turf is expected to be removed in August in time for hockey season.”

The Synthetic Turf is owned and will be maintained by Club 24 Athletics Foundation and is set to be cleaned and disinfected monthly or as requested by Kahnawake Sports Complex. The Turf will not interfere with the KSC’s regular operations.

SRU and Club 24 ask that the Turf be respected and, if possible, have dedicated lacrosse shoes and not use regular outdoor shoes for play and practice. Please avoid spitting and causing damage to the Turf.
