Tree Removal for Covered Rink Project

Public Service Announcement

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke wishes to inform the community that tree removal in the vicinity of the Kahnawà:ke Sports Complex will take place today, Monday, July 29th, and tomorrow, July 30th, in preparation for Phase I of the Covered Rink Project.

MJ Excavation and Capital crews will perform the work and high-value trees will be available for community use.

One Hundred, ten (110) trees will be impacted in total during this maintenance operation, many of which are already dead due to the damage caused by the Emerald Ash Borer beetle.

Following the tree removal, replacement efforts will be scheduled either in the fall or next spring. Potential planting sites under consideration include the Kahnawà:ke Sports Complex area and Kateri Island, where the Kahnawà:ke Environment Protection Office recently completed the Recreation Bay project.

The community’s understanding and patience is appreciated as this project progresses. Further updates and details will be shared as they become available.
