High concentrations of E.coli detected in Tioweroton

Public Safety Division Announcement

The Public Safety Division, in conjunction with the Lands Unit of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke, wishes to inform the community of recent water sampling results in Tioweró:ton. Water testing by Environmental Health Services of Kahnawake Shakotiia’takehnhas Community Services detected a high level of E.coli at the first bridge, Eugene Jacobs Bridge, second Bridge creeks, and the Falls.

As a precaution, Kahnawa’kehró:non are advised not to swim in those areas.

The weather forecast projects rain this coming week, which should reduce E.coli values. The next test will be on Monday, August 12, 2024, weather permitting; updates will be provided to the community as they become available.
