Tree Giveaway

The Kahnawà:ke Environment Protection Office (KEPO) is excited to announce the 2025 Tree Giveaway, taking place on Friday, May 9th, from 10am to 3pm (or while supplies last) at the KEPO grounds, located between the Kahnawà:ke Sports Complex and the Peacekeepers Station. Additionally, the Waste Management Department will be on-site to provide free compost and mulch for planting.

Community members are kindly asked to follow these guidelines:

  • Remain in your vehicle
  • Bring your own bags and buckets for trees, compost, and mulch

Approximately 1,500 trees will be available for community members, with a limit of five trees per household. The following tree species will be available for the giveaway:

  • Onehtó:ia (Red Pine)
  • Wáhta (Sugar Maple)
  • O’só:ra (White Spruce)
  • Tsohtsó:ron (Yellow Birch)
  • Ohnehta’kó:wa (White Pine)

These trees are provided by the Ministry of Forests, Fauna, and Parks and will be distributed by the 4H Clubs of Quebec. For questions, please contact KEPO at 450-635-0600 or EnvironmentProtection@mck.ca.

Easter Holiday office closure

Friday, April 3rd & Monday, April 6th, 2026

All administrative offices of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke will be closed.

 

Please note the following changes to Waste Management Department services during this period:

 

  • Friday, April 3rd – Administrative offices closed
  • Monday, April 6th – Waste Management services resume as usual; however, there will be no cardboard drop‑offs
  • Monday, April 6th – Transfer Depot will operate with reduced hours, from 8am to 2pm

 

Garbage pickup service will continue through the holiday without interruption.

 

All essential services will remain operational throughout the office closures. Regular administrative office hours will resume on Tuesday, April 7th, at 8:30am.
