Essential Snow Removal Program for Elderly and Disabled returns

The Client Based Services (CBS) Unit of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke would like to inform the community that applications are now available for the Essential Snow Removal Program for the 2025-2026 season. This service is intended for low-income elderly and disabled community members.  

The program will operate from Monday, December 1, 2025, to Tuesday, March 31, 2026, and provides access for emergency service personnel by clearing entryways, such as ramps, stairs, and driveways. The program can only accept a limited number of clients, and previous clientele must re-apply each year.

Eligibility:

All Kahnawa’kehró:non on the Kahnawà:ke Kanien’kehá:ka Registry who meet the following criteria are eligible to apply for the service:

  • 65 years of age
  • Living alone with limited income
  • Having physical disabilities/medical conditions – as verified by a medical professional
  • No able-bodied person can be living at the same residence as participant

Applications are now available at the CBS offices located in the Services Complex until Friday, November 14th. Please contact Caroline McComber at 450-638-0500 for full details on eligibility criteria and services provided.

  • No Cardboard drop-offs
  • Transfer Depot will be closed
  • Recycling, compost, and cardboard pickup service will continue as usual

Regular office hours will resume on Tuesday, June 23rd, at 8:30am.

Waste Management services are as follows:

  • There will be NO Recycling and Compost collection
  • No cardboard drop offs
  • The Transfer Depot will be closed – regular Transfer Depot hours resume on Saturday, July 4th
  • Household Garbage collection will continue as usual

 

All essential services will remain in operation.

Regular business hours will resume at 8:30am on Monday, July 6th.
