The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) is announcing a complete closure of the Route 207 entry to Kahnawà:ke at Hwy 30 (North bound). These measures will be in effect from Monday, November 10 until further notice, between 5:30am and 9am, to address community safety concerns due to increased traffic volumes from regional road construction.

During these hours, the Route 207 entrance to Kahnawà:ke will be closed to all traffic. Access to Route 207 will be permitted only for emergency services (ambulance, police, and fire). All other motorists will be turned away.

The South bound exit from Kahnawà:ke to Hwy 30 will remain open for all. The Kahnawà:ke Peacekeepers will enforce the closure schedule.

Additionally, the Kahnawà:ke Peacekeepers will continue to monitor the Old Chateauguay Road entrance, allowing passage to residents and those who provide proof of employment in the Territory.

“We’ve seen a rise in traffic since several road construction projects began around our community,” said Ratsénhaienhs Ryan Montour, External Government Relations Portfolio Holder and Public Safety Lead. “As traffic increases, so does the concern for public safety of the residents along Route 207 and other roadways.”

The MCK urges local residents, businesses, and organizations to make necessary arrangements for deliveries, notifying employees, and other logistics during this period.
