Purpose:
Responsible to assist with the facilitation and delivery of restorative justice and alternative dispute resolution services within the Mohawk Territory of Kahnawà:ke.
Provides administrative support to the Skén:nen Aonsón:ton program and promotes models of restorative justice and alternative dispute resolution practices.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Facilitates Restorative Justice and Alternative Dispute Resolution activities for Skén:nen Aonsón:ton
- Facilitates restorative justice conferences to help parties resolve the effects of criminal offences, including files referred by the prosecutor for the Court of Kahnawà:ke or the Directeur des poursuites criminelles et pénales (DPCP).
- Facilitates alternative dispute resolution (ADR) conferences and peacemaking circles to help parties resolve private disputes, including family disputes and labour/employment issues.
- Facilitates discussions and negotiations among parties, ensuring a neutral and balanced environment for all participants.
- Assists in guiding participants towards understanding each other perspectives.
Provides Administrative Support for Skén:nen Aonsón:ton
- Coordinates and schedules intake and other meetings with clients.
- Acts as a contact person for the intake of files for restorative justice and alternative dispute resolution services.
- During client meetings, actively captures notes and relevant information shared.
- Assists with all activities directly associated with moving files from initial intake to the point of resolution.
- Assists with intake, file processing, and preparation for restorative justice alternative dispute resolution conferences.
- Drafts agreements following successful resolution of files with the assistance of the Lead Facilitator, Skén:nen Aonsón:ton.
- Maintains and updates client files with notes and relevant documents.
- Maintains accurate data and tracking tools as requested by supervisor.
- Coordinates meetings on behalf of supervisor and Lead Facilitator, Skén:nen Aonsón:ton as requested.
- Provides administrative support to both the Lead Facilitator, Skén:nen Aonsón:ton and the Programs and Services Coordinator as requested.
Promotes models of Restorative Justice and Alternative Dispute Resolution practices
- Actively advocates for and promotes restorative justice and alternative dispute resolution practices, by informing the community via internal and external public relations methods.
- With the assistance of the Lead Facilitator, Skén:nen Aonsón:ton, , delivers Restorative Justice or Alternative Dispute Resolution presentations to interested groups or institutions within the community.
- In collaboration with the Lead Facilitator, Skén:nen Aonsón:ton, maintains a centralized archiving system on books, periodicals, training manuals relevant to alternative justice.
Education & Experience:
- DEC in Legal, Social Work or related field, plus two (2) years relevant experience and a commitment to completion of certified course in mediation, family group conferencing or other alternative justice practices within 90 days of job start date.
OR
- High School Diploma, plus three to four (3-4) years relevant experience and a commitment to completion of certified course in mediation, family group conferencing or other alternative justice practices within 90 days of job start date.

- Knowledge of restorative justice and alternative dispute resolution processes.
- Ability to incorporate facilitation, mediation, family group conferencing and restorative justice practices.

- Maintains confidentiality.
- Adhere to the MCK policies and Kanien’kéha Language initiatives.
- Ability to communicate in the Kanien’kéha and French languages is an asset.
- The willingness to learn the Kanien’kéha language.
Working Environment:
- Five (5) day workweek in an office and courtroom environment.
- Ability to manage overtime in the evenings and on weekends.
- Considerable stress and exposure to emotional, personal, and sensitive situations (i.e. family issues) requiring tact, discretion and confidentiality.
