Alcoholic Beverages Control Board – Nominations & Election Update

Public Service Announcement

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke wishes to announce the nomination results for the Alcoholic Beverages Control (ABC) Board held on Saturday, August 16, 2025, overseen by Electoral Officer Marnie Jacobs and Assistant Lindsay Leborgne:

  • Evelyn Jacobs has been elected by acclamation to the ABC Board.

Based on these results, and with six (6) vacant Board seats remaining, the Electoral Officer and Assistant are re-opening nominations from now until Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 1pm.

Community members can receive and submit nomination packages by email to ABCBoard@mck.ca. Details confirming the submission requirements for packages will be provided in the email.

An official Nomination Day will take place on Saturday, September 6, 2025, from 9am to 1pm at the Golden Age Club. Community members may complete nomination packages on site or drop off completed packages to the Electoral Officer and Assistant.

A new date for the ABC Election will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025, from 10am to 3pm at the Golden Age Club.

In accordance with the ABC Law, nominees must:

  • Be a Mohawk of Kahnawà:ke listed on the Kanien’kehá:ka of Kahnawà:ke Registry
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Have no direct or indirect interests in any enterprise that manufactures, distributes, transports, or sells alcoholic beverages within the Community of Kahnawà:ke
  • Be willing to be publicly presented to the Community of Kahnawà:ke as a candidate
  • Be nominated and seconded by two (2) Mohawks of Kahnawà:ke
  • Be willing to serve a two (2) year term of office

  • No Cardboard drop-offs
  • Transfer Depot will be closed
  • Recycling, compost, and cardboard pickup service will continue as usual

Regular office hours will resume on Tuesday, June 23rd, at 8:30am.

Waste Management services are as follows:

  • There will be NO Recycling and Compost collection
  • No cardboard drop offs
  • The Transfer Depot will be closed – regular Transfer Depot hours resume on Saturday, July 4th
  • Household Garbage collection will continue as usual

 

All essential services will remain in operation.

Regular business hours will resume at 8:30am on Monday, July 6th.
