Benjamin Green-Stacey stepping down as Director of KEPO

Benjamin Green-Stacey

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to advise the community that Benjamin Green-Stacey has decided to step down from his position as Director of the Kahnawà:ke Environment Protection Office (KEPO) to focus on his expanding family.

Benjamin joined the MCK team in September of 2022. One of his most outstanding contributions was the mitigation of the Chateauguay fuel spill in February of 2024, when KEPO responded to concerns from residents who had reported the odor of fuel in an area on Zachary Road. The situation escalated in urgency over the following months, leading to the creation of a Crisis Response Team, on which Benjamin played a vital role.

“I would like to express our deepest gratitude for the incredible work and unwavering commitment Ben has shown to our community,” said Executive Director Onerahtókha Marquis. “Ben’s countless hours and tireless efforts during the fuel spill were truly remarkable, and his preparatory work on the Environmental Vision, Environment Law, and the Saint Lawrence River and Creek Rehabilitation projects has been invaluable. He will be missed.”

“Leading the team at KEPO has truly been an honor, and the most impactful work of my career,” said Benjamin Green-Stacey. “We have made significant accomplishments increasing the amount of Kanien’kéha spoken at the office, building new mechanisms for community engagement on environmental issues, and enhancing coordination across MCK Units and Community Organizations to protect the environment. I am so proud of all the staff at KEPO, and I know they will continue doing great things!”

Benjamin’s last day with KEPO will be Friday, June 27, 2025.
