Feedback requested on key sections of Tioweró:ton Development and Cabin Ownership Procedure

The Lands Unit of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) is reviewing key sections of the Tioweró:ton Development and Cabin Ownership Procedure related to cabin site allocation, construction timelines, safety, and enforcement. Community input is essential to ensure the procedure reflects community values, fairness, and responsible stewardship of Tioweró:ton.

Areas Under Review:

  • Eligibility Criteria
  • Proof of Eligibility
  • Two-Year Time Limit for Cabin Construction
  • Unfinished or Hazardous Structures
  • Enforcement

Community members, both cabin owners and non-cabin owners, are invited to attend one of the following engagement sessions at the Golden Age Club:

  • Thursday, February 26th – 11am to 1pm
  • Saturday, February 28th – 11am to 1pm
  • Thursday, March 12th – 6pm to 8pm

Participation will help guide proposed updates and ensure the procedure continues to protect Tioweró:ton for current and future generations.

30-Day Written Feedback Period

For those who are unable to attend an engagement session, a 30-day document review period will take place from February 23, to March 25, 2026.

Written feedback may be submitted during this period to Summer Martin at summer.martin@mck.ca, who will be collecting all submissions.

Easter Holiday office closure

Friday, April 3rd & Monday, April 6th, 2026

All administrative offices of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke will be closed.

 

Please note the following changes to Waste Management Department services during this period:

 

  • Friday, April 3rd – Administrative offices closed
  • Monday, April 6th – Waste Management services resume as usual; however, there will be no cardboard drop‑offs
  • Monday, April 6th – Transfer Depot will operate with reduced hours, from 8am to 2pm

 

Garbage pickup service will continue through the holiday without interruption.

 

All essential services will remain operational throughout the office closures. Regular administrative office hours will resume on Tuesday, April 7th, at 8:30am.
