Geotechnical studies for OCR, Kirby Road, and Delisle Road

The Capital Unit of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to inform the community of an upcoming geotechnical study along the Old Chateauguay Road (OCR), Kirby Road, and a portion of Delisle Road. This study is part of the preparatory work for the rehabilitation of the water and sewer network on OCR and Kirby Road.

The consulting firm GIE will conduct borehole drilling at 13 specific locations in the roadway starting tomorrow, Tuesday, December 17, and continuing through Friday, December 20, 2024, weather permitting. Due to time constraints, not all boreholes will be completed during this period. Drilling will resume on Monday, January 6, 2025, and will continue until all boreholes are complete.

Each borehole will result in a small 2-inch-wide hole in the roadway. Temporary narrow PVC pipes will be installed in each borehole to monitor groundwater levels for 24 hours. These pipes will be removed once data collection is complete.

The work will not affect underground infrastructure, and MCK staff will be on-site throughout the process to oversee operations.

To ensure safety during drilling, lane widths will be reduced in one direction, with flagging personnel present to direct traffic. Drivers are asked to proceed with caution while work is underway.

The MCK thanks the community for its patience and understanding during this important work. For further information, please contact the Technical Services Office at 450-635-1016.

Please note that this schedule is subject to change based on weather conditions, operational constraints, or work progression.
