Heather Bauersfeld appointed to KGC – MCK thanks outgoing Commissioners

Press Release

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to announce that Heather Bauersfeld was appointed at a duly convened council meeting on Monday, November 4, 2024, by MCED 97/2024-2025, as a Commissioner on the Kahnawà:ke Gaming Commission (KGC) for a one-year term. She will have all the powers of a voting member of the Commission.

Bauersfeld’s appointment, along with Donna McComber’s appointment, announced last week, allows the KGC to function again with a quorum. KGC meetings can now resume this week. Please note that the MCK intends to continue seeking additional commissioners.

The MCK also wishes to inform the community that it has rescinded the Mohawk Council Executive Decision (MCED) of the following appointments to the Kahnawà:ke Gaming Commission:

  • Daryl Leclaire, previously reappointed by MCED 62/2022-2023, resigned on October 18, 2024
  • Frank Phillips was previously reappointed by MCED 63/2022-2023 and resigned on October 21, 2024, before being reappointed for a second term.

The MCK wishes to thank the outgoing Commissioners for their time, commitment, and service.

Since the enactment of the Kahnawà:ke Gaming Law (Law) in 1996 up to the present, a minimum of three (3) members and up to a maximum of nine (9) members may be appointed to the Kahnawà:ke Gaming Commission by the MCK on an interim basis until such time as the Law is amended.
