Purpose: 

Perform duties related to the functioning and upkeep of the Kahnawake Sports Complex ice surface, athletic fields, and parks during seasonal activities. 

Provides custodian duties. 

Roles & Responsibilities: 

Sports complex machine operator  

  • Operate and maintain ice surface machinery, ice edger, skate sharpener, and any other equipment used within the Sports Complex. 
  • Makes, maintains, and upkeeps the ice surface during the winter season. 
  • Monthly flooding and repair of ice surface (chipping) when necessary. 
  • Paints the ice surface and re-painting during the winter season, as needed. 
  • Removal of ice surface at the close of the winter season. 
  • Completes inspection reports for all machinery, time schedules, and refrigeration readings. 

Custodian duties  

  • Cleaning of playing surface, spectator areas, technical service room, washrooms, community room, snack bar, offices, dressing rooms, and outside grounds. 
  • Determines schedule for custodian duties. 
  • Keeps cleaning products well-stocked. 
  • Cleans mop heads thoroughly. 
  • Inspects all areas, both inside and outside of the Sports Complex and reports any major repairs necessary to the manager. 
  • Performs follow-up on cleaning/repairs of the building that does not require professional or contractor skills. 
  • Maintains the parking lot area, grass surrounding, and front entrances, especially during the winter months. 
  • Keeps outside stairs clean and free of debris, snow and/or ice. 

Provides assistance to the Kahnawà:ke Sports Complex.  

  • Assists the snack bar workers as needed.  
  • Distributes cash boxes for the Pro Shop. 
  • Responds to injuries on the ice or playing surfaces. 
  • Assists in security matters. 
  • Assures that house rules and regulations are followed. 
  • To be on-site during all lacrosse games. 
  • Assists with the supervision of children for scheduled school events. 
  • Opens and closes the Sports Complex daily and before and after scheduled events. 
  • Fill in when necessary if any of the Sports Complex operations is short-handed. 
  • Provides guidance to summer students. 
  • Assists with the upkeep and maintenance of all fields and parks. 
  • Perform other job-related duties as directed by immediate supervisor. 

Education & Experience: 

High School Diploma, plus one (1) year relevant experience, with concentration in general maintenance, along with a basic first aid course. 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Attributes: 

  • Ability to work effectively in a team and independently. 
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills. 
  • Strong communication and customer service skills. 
  • Good character and strong work ethic. 
  • Must possess a valid Quebec Driver’s License. 
  • Conducts business with internal and external clients in a tactful, discreet, and courteous manner. 
  • Maintains confidentiality. 
  • Adhere to the MCK Administration Manual-Personnel Policy and Kanien’kéha Language initiatives. 
  • Ability to communicate in the Kanien’kéha and French languages is an asset. 
  • The willingness to learn the Kanien’kéha language. 

Working Environment: 

  • Five-day work week is performed in an indoor/outdoor environment. 
  • Exposure to extreme cold and outdoor environment. 
  • Long hours both during the week, weekends, and evenings. 
  • Moderate stress due to workload. 
  • Occasional overtime.

Easter Holiday office closure

Friday, April 3rd & Monday, April 6th, 2026

All administrative offices of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke will be closed.

 

Please note the following changes to Waste Management Department services during this period:

 

  • Friday, April 3rd – Administrative offices closed
  • Monday, April 6th – Waste Management services resume as usual; however, there will be no cardboard drop‑offs
  • Monday, April 6th – Transfer Depot will operate with reduced hours, from 8am to 2pm

 

Garbage pickup service will continue through the holiday without interruption.

 

All essential services will remain operational throughout the office closures. Regular administrative office hours will resume on Tuesday, April 7th, at 8:30am.
