Purpose:
Is responsible for ensuring a safe and secure operation and delivery of services offered at the Transfer Depot. To ensure the depot is maintained, clean, safe and operates in an efficient manner.
Roles & Responsibilities:
To ensure the safe and secure operations and delivery of services offered at the Transfer Depot.
- Greets clients in a courteous manner and determines eligibility of client to use the services.
- Inspects waste loads for compliance with acceptance requirements.
- Directs clients to specific locations for disposal of the various materials into designated areas.
- Safely supervises and/or assists residents using the facilities to ensure proper sorting and placement procedures.
- Ensures safety measures are adhered to by all clients.
- Ensures use of proper methods for collection and storage of hazardous materials.
- Accurately records details/data entry of client usage of facility.
- Ensures bin space availability for continuous client service.
- Arranges with main department office for collection of recyclable materials by external companies.
- Accurately records daily collections or services by external companies and verifies accuracy of work orders for bin exchanges.
- Ensures accurate reports of incidences of aggressive behavior and non-compliance to the Peacekeepers and immediate supervisor.
- Carefully documents all Transfer Depot Incidences.
- Ensure timely document submission to immediate supervisor.
- Responsible to prepare weekly reports to immediate supervisor.
- Ensures proper brush placement and compost disposal by clients.
- Provide support to other staff in executing tasks as needed.
To ensure the maintenance, upkeep and security of the facilities, vehicle, equipment, grounds, and buildings.
- Responsible to ensure facility is opened and securely closed at designated hours of operation.
- Organizes and maintains a clean indoor workspace.
- Review security camera recordings in the event of an incident.
- Performs regular surveillance of the facility to ensure proper hazard free storage of materials, proper disposal of recyclable / waste materials and the removal of contaminants.
- Regularly maintains the cleanliness of depot yard and access roads to be free of sharp debris.
- Performs regular yard maintenance, including weeding and brush cutting, within the fence perimeter.
- Maintains the cleanliness of the immediate exterior perimeter of the Transfer Depot fence.
- Ensures safe accessibility to all material storage locations.
- Reports building maintenance needs in a timely manner.
To provide support and communications on services offered by the Waste Management Department.
- Provides information on Waste Management Services – Transfer Depot, Recycling, and Composting operations.
- Assists with the distribution of pamphlets/notices and other forms of communications.
- Assists with other communications as needed.
Education & Experience:
- High School Diploma, plus three (3) years relevant experience.
- Experience or training in any of the following areas: Household hazardous waste collection, transportation, and storage methods training and Fire Suppression training.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Ability to prepare organized and accurate forms and reports.
- Ability to perform basic maintenance and repairs of tools and equipment.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Sound judgement and decision-making skills.
- Strong knowledge of worker safety practices and theories.
- Sound knowledge of computers /word and excel programs
- Good oral and written communication and report writing skills.
- Willingness to participate in training and self-development programs.
- Ensure a strong knowledge of service, policies and procedures of the Waste Management Department.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Adheres to the MCK Administration Manual-Personnel Policy and Kanien’kéha Language Initiatives.
- Ability to communicate in the Kanien’kéha and French languages is an asset.
- The willingness to learn the Kanien’kéha language is required.
Working Environment:
- Forty (40) hour work week schedule in an outdoor environment.
- Occasional overtime and holiday work may be required to meet the needs of the Transfer Depot operation and Waste Management Department.
- Ability to adapt to outdoor working conditions.
- Ability to manage moderate to high stress associated with dealing with the public.
