The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke wishes to inform the community that Kenitsénhaienhs Tonya Perron and Melanie Morrison will be attending the 19th session of the United Nations Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (EMRIP) from July 13-17, 2026.

The EMRIP is a United Nations body based in Geneva, Switzerland, that provides expertise and advice to the Human Rights Council on matters concerning Indigenous Peoples. It is composed of seven independent experts and holds annual sessions to discuss key issues and offer recommendations.

The Kenitsénhaienhs will participate in various seminars, panels, and discussions on several topics relating to the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and its progress after 20 years. Other topics include Membership and Identity, Justice, Ecological harm, Lands and Indigenous Peoples, and Artificial Intelligence.

The Kenitsénhaienhs are scheduled to return to the community on Saturday, July 18, and will return to the office on Monday, July 20.

Orange Shirt Day office closure

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) would like to inform the community that all its administrative offices will be closed for Orange Shirt Day on Wednesday, September 30th.

Regular household Recycling pickup service and Compost collection will continue as usual. Please have your bins curbside by 7am. The Transfer Depot will be closed.

As the Town Garage will be closed, all cardboard drop-offs will be postponed to Thursday, October 1st.

All essential services will remain in operation. Regular business hours will resume on Thursday, October 1st, at 8:30am.
