MCK Approves Additional Funding for Phase I of the Covered Rink Project

Press Release

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawake (MCK) recently approved additional funding to support Phase I of the Covered Rink Project.

This project, which began as a grassroots initiative, has now evolved into a collaborative effort involving the MCK, Kahnawà:ke Shakotiia’takehnhas Community Services (KSCS), the Federal Government, and our community.

To address the increased cost of construction the market has experienced since the original cost estimate was provided, the MCK has allocated an additional $1 million for this phase. Additionally, $300,000 has been committed, pending the formal transfer of additional funds from KSCS. This investment will be drawn from the MCK′s operational reserve.

The Covered Rink Project aims to provide our community with an extra ice surface and lacrosse floor, fulfilling a longstanding request from residents. This initiative will serve the youth of Kahnawà:ke for many years, offering essential floor and ice time for Minor Hockey, Kahnawà:ke Figure Skating, and Minor Lacrosse. It represents a significant step towards enhancing opportunities for our young athletes and enriching our community’s recreational offerings.

The MCK appreciates the ongoing support and collaboration from all partners involved and looks forward to the positive impact this project will have on our community.
