MCK declines closed-door meeting with Terrapure

MCK

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to inform the community that on October 6, 2026, it responded to correspondence from the President of Terrapure Environmental Ltd. On September 21, 2026, Ryan Reid of Terrapure had requested a confidential meeting to discuss Terrapure’s investment in an undefined development being considered at the industrial site located east of the Territory.

The MCK has made it clear: the Mohawks of Kahnawà:ke do not support any further investment in or expansion of the Terrapure facility. MCK remains firmly opposed to the continued growth of industrial operations that has had longstanding impacts on the environment, community well-being, and quality of life of Kahnawa’kehró:non.

In its response, the MCK reiterated that it is the Mohawks of Kahnawà:ke’s position that the facility should cease operations at its current location, relocate away from Kahnawà:ke, and undertake the full remediation of environmental impacts associated with its operations rather than pursuing further investment or expansion.

The MCK reiterated that the facility is located on unceded Mohawk Territory and within the boundaries of the Seigneury of Sault-Saint-Louis land grievance.

As part of its responsibility to consult the community on matters affecting the Territory, the people, and the lands of Kahnawà:ke, the MCK will continue to communicate openly and transparently on this issue.
