MCK Governance Portfolio Team seeking Kahnawa’kehró:non to join Advisory Team

Press Release

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) Governance Portfolio Team (GPT) is seeking one to two interested community members to join the Governance Advisory Team (GAT) to review, update, and validate the documentation that governs the Ratitsénhaienhs as elected officials.

In January 2025, it was announced the that following documentation undergo review by a collective of community members known as the GAT: the Code of Conduct for the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke Ratitsénhaienhs, the Terms of Reference for the Ietsénhaienhs/Ratsénhaienhs, the Terms of Reference for the Ohén:ton Í:iente/Í:rate ne Ratitsénhaienhs, the Declaration of Oath of Office, and the Administration Guidelines for the Council of Chiefs.

At current, the updated Code of Conduct for the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke Ratitsénhaienhs was formally approved by Mohawk Council Executive Directive on October 14, 2025. The GAT is also completing the review of the Terms of Reference for the Ietsénhaienhs/Ratsénhaienhs. Over the next several months, the additional members would be involved as part of the GAT in the review and validation of the remaining documents.

“The GAT plays an important role in ensuring that these governance documents reflect the community’s expectations of the individual Ietsénhaienhs/Ratsénhaienhs, as well as the Ratitsénhaienhs collectively,” said Governance Portfolio Lead Ietsénhaienhs Tonya Perron.

Community members with strong ideas and perspectives on how the Council should operate – particularly, in reference to the key documents outlined above, are encouraged to join the GAT. Members meet two to four times per month, with each meeting taking approximately two to three hours.

Those interested must be registered on the Kahnawà:ke Kanien’kehá:ka Registry, and are encouraged to express their interest by submitting a letter of intent to Jenny Toh, MCK Strategist, at jenny.toh@mck.ca by Friday, November 14, 2025. The GAT Terms of Reference is available for viewing here.
