Press Release

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke is deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of a young community member on October 26, 2025, at the age of 16. We extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and all those who are grieving during this profoundly difficult time.

This tragic loss has touched every corner of our community. As Kahnawà:ke mourns, we stand united in sorrow and in strength. Our hearts are with those closest to the young individual, and we recognize the deep pain and grief felt throughout our community.

In times like these, it is more important than ever that we come together to support one another. We encourage anyone in need of comfort or guidance to reach out to the counseling and support services available through Kahnawà:ke Shakotiia’takéhnhas Community Services and the peer services being offered by the Kahnawà:ke Survival School. These resources are here for all who are navigating this loss.

In moments like these, we hold our loved ones close and are reminded of our strength in unity through acts of support and compassion. Kahnawà:ke has been shaken to its core and no community or family should have to face such overwhelming grief.

Our thoughts remain with the loved ones of the departed. May we find comfort in one another and draw strength from our shared commitment to healing, compassion, and community.
