MCK offers condolences on the passing of Gary Horn

Press Release

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to offer its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Gary Horn, who passed away on January 20, 2024, at the age of 84. Gary is being remembered as a proud husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Following his longtime career as the owner and operator of Horn Tree Service, Gary joined the MCK as a contract bus driver in 2004, servicing Kells Academy, Weston School, Loyola High School, and John Grant High School. In October 2005, Gary took on a permanent position as a bus driver for Queen of Angels Academy. He retired on October 30, 2015.

For nearly 11 years, students of Kahnawake were greeted by his kind and smiling face as he drove them to school safely. Gary had a special rapport with the students on his bus and would often provide snacks and, during exam periods, bring students to McDonald′s.

“On behalf of the Daily Transportation Department and his former colleagues, I  would like to extend my deepest sympathies to the family of Gary Horn. The news of his passing deeply saddened those who knew him,” said General Manager of Transportation Spencer McComber. “I drove alongside him for a little more than five years, and he will be missed by all who knew him.”

His kindness and generosity will be greatly missed by all whose lives he′s touched. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.
