The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) is proud to announce È:neken Karihwáhere’ (the political priorities) for the 2024-2027 term. These priorities have been identified through a comprehensive consultation process by the Council of Chiefs which included community engagement kiosks, a community survey, and an in-person consultation during the summer community meeting.
The MCK is committed to advancing the following top four (4) priorities during this term, reflecting the community’s values and aspirations:
- Ohóntsa’ entsitewaié:na’ (Land Back) – A continued and focused effort to reclaim Kahnawà:ke’s ancestral lands, asserting sovereignty and ensuring that our traditional territories are managed and protected for future generations
- Tsi Ní:ioht Tsi Tetewatawén:rie’ Ne Ó:ia’ Kakorahserakè:ron’ (External Government Relations) – Strengthening relationships with external governments, advocating for Kahnawà:ke’s interests, and ensuring that our voice is heard in all relevant political and policy discussions
- Rononhnhí:io Tánon’ Rotinakerahserí:io (Holistic Well-being & Quality of Life of Kahnawa’kehró:non) – Prioritizing the health, safety, and overall quality of life for the community of Kahnawà:ke, with a focus on social, cultural, and environmental well-being
- Tsi Ní:ioht Tsi Tewatathá:wi Ne Ohwísta’ Aorihwà:ke (Financial & Economic Independence) – Building sustainable economic development strategies that will support Kahnawà:ke’s long-term financial independence, ensuring that our community thrives and remains self-sufficient
“These priorities are a direct reflection of the needs and hopes voiced by the community,” said Ohenton Í:rate ne Ratitsenhaienhs Cody Diabo. “The MCK is committed to working collaboratively with Kahnawà:ke’s leadership, community members, and internal and external partners to achieve these important goals.”
While priorities will be identified within each individual portfolio, these four (4) are the ones that the Council of Chiefs as a whole will focus on.
The priorities were first presented at the Fall Community Meeting and are also available in print at the main building, in addition to being accessible online at www.kahnawake.com/council.

Additionally, the MCK’s decision-making process is guided by core political principles, ensuring that all actions and strategies align with the Council’s commitment to uphold Kahnawà:ke’s sovereignty and community values.
