Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke Election Law Second Hearing March 20 at Moose Lodge

The Kahnawà:ke Legislative Commission (KLC) wishes to inform the community that the Second Hearing for amendments to the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke Election Law is scheduled for Wednesday, March 20, 2024, from 6 – 8:30pm.

The agenda will be as follows:

  • Review the revised Law to ensure that all changes agreed to by consensus at the First Hearing on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, have been included.

The revised Law based on these amendments was posted for a 30-day review period, which will end on March 24, 2024. To view the newly revised draft, please click here. To view the tracked change version, please click here.

A minimum of ten (10) community members on the Kanien’kehá:ka Kahnawà:ke Registry are required to be in attendance for the Hearing to occur. A meal will be provided for those who pre-register.

Interested persons should pre-register their attendance by contacting Andrea Montour of the Executive Office by 4pm on Friday, March 15, 2024, at 450-632-7500 or by email at andrea.montour@mck.ca.

The Law will be presented at a Legislative Session (duly convened Council meeting) on March 25, 2024, followed by the Technical Drafting Committee Reading the Law into the Record and signing of the Certification of the Process. The Law will then enter Phase III for Enactment.

Easter Holiday office closure

Friday, April 3rd & Monday, April 6th, 2026

All administrative offices of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke will be closed.

 

Please note the following changes to Waste Management Department services during this period:

 

  • Friday, April 3rd – Administrative offices closed
  • Monday, April 6th – Waste Management services resume as usual; however, there will be no cardboard drop‑offs
  • Monday, April 6th – Transfer Depot will operate with reduced hours, from 8am to 2pm

 

Garbage pickup service will continue through the holiday without interruption.

 

All essential services will remain operational throughout the office closures. Regular administrative office hours will resume on Tuesday, April 7th, at 8:30am.
