The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) is outraged by the recent online activity of a small group of individuals. Their actions have caused significant harm and trauma, violated our values, and have no place in our community. We condemn them in the strongest possible terms.
While anger is understandable, it is important that we don’t create an atmosphere encouraging violence and undermining due process, as this does not reflect the inner strength and dignity of our community. Let us ensure that accountability is pursued through proper channels so justice can be achieved without adding to the pain and trauma already felt across our community.
The MCK offers its full support to the Kahnawà:ke Peacekeepers, who are responsible for ensuring that this matter is addressed with the seriousness it deserves. We call on all community members to unite in support of those harmed, to condemn such behavior unequivocally, and to act in ways that uphold our shared values of respect, safety, and collective responsibility.
Kahnawà:ke Shakotiia’takehnhas Community Services (KSCS) will be hosting two community talking circles to provide a safe and culturally grounded space for dialogue and healing. We encourage all community members to attend and to access KSCS for confidential support during this difficult time.
