Nitsénhaienhs to attend key meetings in Ottawa

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke would like to inform the community that Ohén:ton Í:rate ne Ratitsénhaienhs Cody Diabo and Ratsénhaienhs David Diabo will be attending various key meetings this week in Ottawa, Ontario, starting with the Iroquois Caucus (IC) and Jay Treaty Border Alliance (JTBA). During the week, Ohén:ton Í:rate ne Ratitsénhaienhs Cody Diabo will also be attending the Assembly of First Nations (AFN) Annual General Assembly from Monday, July 13 until Thursday, July 16, 2026. 

The AFN three-day gathering will feature regional caucus meetings and plenary sessions addressing key issues such as First Nations infrastructure, consultation, and Health. Delegates will also deliberate on resolutions related to:

  • First Nations Clean Water Act
  • Housing
  • Child Welfare
  • Bill S2
  • Indigenous Consultation on Major Projects
  • Housing

Ohén:ton Í:rate ne Ratitsénhaienhs Diabo will also meet with Federal Minister of Indigenous Services, Mandy Gull-Masty and Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada (CIRNAC) Rebecca Alty.

Ratsénhaienhs David Diabo is anticipated to return to the community on Tuesday, July 14, with Ohén:ton Í:rate ne Ratitsénhaienhs Diabo returning Thursday, July 16.

  • Transfer Depot will be closed
  • Recycling, compost, and cardboard pickup service will continue as usual

Regular office hours will resume on Tuesday, June 23rd, at 8:30am.

Waste Management services are as follows:

  • There will be NO Recycling and Compost collection
  • No cardboard drop offs
  • The Transfer Depot will be closed – regular Transfer Depot hours resume on Saturday, July 4th
  • Household Garbage collection will continue as usual

 

All essential services will remain in operation.

Regular business hours will resume at 8:30am on Monday, July 6th.
