Office of the Kahnawake Kanienkehaka Registry announces additions to the Registry

The Office of the Kahnawake Kanienkehaka Registry (OKKR) wishes to advise the community that the most recent additions to the Registry have been posted on the OKKR page on the www.kahnawake.com website.

Between February 2023 and January 2024, thirty-six (36) applications were received to be recognized on the Kanienkehaka of Kahnawake Registry; twelve (12) adults and twenty-one (21) minor children were recognized. Three (3) applications were denied.

Six (6) applications were received for consideration under the Kahnawake Residency Law during that same period. Three (3) met the criteria as Approved Kahnawake Residents, and three (3) were denied.

Since 2021, 23 applications have been received for various sections of the Kahnawake Residency Law. Eleven (11) met the criteria to be an Approved Kahnawake Resident, and one (1) met the criteria for a Residency Permit (expiring in 2025). Eleven (11) were denied or are pending.

The additions were approved under regulations developed and passed as part of the Kanienkehaka of Kahnawake Law which was passed in 2018. The Law and Regulations can be viewed here.Kahnawakehronon seeking further information can contact Melanie Gilbert at 450-638-0500.

Labor Day office closure

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke wishes to inform the community that all its administrative offices will be closed for Rotiio’ténion Raonenhnísera, Labor Day on Monday, September 7th.

Service Schedule for Labor Day:

  • Transfer DepotCLOSED for the day
  • Town GarageCLOSED – All cardboard drop-offs postponed to Tuesday, September 8th

 

All essential services will remain in operation. Regular business hours will resume on Tuesday, September 8th, at 8:30am.
