The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to inform the community that Ohén:ton Í:rate ne Ratitsénhaienhs Cody Diabo met with the Mayor of Montreal, Soraya Martinez Ferrad at City Hall on Wednesday, September 2nd. Also in attendance was Pierrefonds-Roxboro borough Mayor Jim Beis.
This meeting marked another important step in strengthening relationships between Kahnawà:ke and neighbouring governments. Discussions focused on identifying areas of common interests and exploring opportunities to further enhance collaboration and mutual understanding.
Topics discussed included relationship building, Kahnawà:ke’s challenges and priorities related to land development, housing, and infrastructure; consultation processes; public safety; economic development initiatives; and tourism opportunities.
“Building and maintaining strong relationships with our neighbours is essential, and we look forward to continuing these conversations and welcoming the Mayor to Kahnawà:ke in the future,” said Ohén:ton Í:rate ne Ratitsénhaienhs Cody Diabo.
The parties also committed to maintaining regular dialogue through biannual and annual meetings, including invitations for the mayor to visit the community.
