Overnight Rail Grinding Maintenance

Public Safety Division Announcement

The Public Safety Division of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawake has been informed by Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) that maintenance work is scheduled for the railway tracks within the Territory tomorrow, Friday, September 6th, and Saturday, September 7th.

The maintenance vehicle to be utilized is a rail grinder, which produces sparks that may appear as fire. This is normal to witness, even more so at night, and the vehicle has fire prevention systems in place should it be necessary.

The vehicle carries out this necessary maintenance work to extend the life of the railway and to reduce any associated risks of defects, contact fatigue, and metal obstructions on the steel.
