The Sports and Recreation Unit of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawake wishes to inform the community that, unfortunately, the Recreation Bay Beach will be closed for the remainder of the season.

Due to the many waterfowl that gather in the area, E. coli readings are not showing any improvement. The area was initially closed in July by the Public Safety Division due to high levels of E. coli.

The community′s patience and understanding are appreciated as research and testing continues for ways to keep the birds off the beach to improve the water quality. Environmental Health Services will also continue bacteria sampling recreational waters until the end of September.
