Social Assistance to provide monetary benefit in lieu of household hampers

Hand Shake

The Kahnawà:ke Social Assistance Program (KSAP) of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke wishes to announce a change to the Inflation Fund Benefit, which is part of the Indigenous Services Canada Inflation Benefit program. After careful consideration and feedback from clients, the Household Essentials Hamper program, originally scheduled to launch in January 2025, will no longer proceed as planned.

Instead, KSAP will provide a $200 monetary benefit, allowing clients the flexibility to purchase household items that best meet their needs. This benefit was tailored for distribution through KSAP and received approval through the Council table to ensure the community’s needs are met effectively.

Lastly, a reminder that the Inflation Fund Benefit plan will conclude at the end of March 2025. While always intended as a temporary relief to aid clients, the additional benefits that were provided reflect KSAP’s commitment to responding to the needs of the community and ensuring that support is accessible and convenient for all clients.
