Special weather statement issued for Kahnawà:ke

Public Safety Division Announcement

The Public Safety Division of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke wishes to inform the community that a special weather statement has been issued for Kahnawà:ke and the surrounding area.

There is a possibility of 25-30 millimeters of freezing rain combined with snow over a twenty-four-hour period beginning Wednesday morning. These amounts could impact travel and cause power outages in the community.

Homeowners should check sump pumps to ensure they are in good working order. Also, have a backup power source for your home in case of a power outage.

With colder weather forecasts for the coming days, it is important to plan accordingly. Be prepared with a 72-hour plan that includes water, food, medications, and phone chargers.

If you must travel during inclement weather, be cautious as road conditions can deteriorate quickly. Be cautious of icy conditions while walking outside.

Additional details are available on the Environment Canada website, in your weather app, and on the Kahnawake911 Facebook page.
