The Kahnawà:ke Environment Protection Office (KEPO) and the Public Safety Division of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke wish to remind the community that work associated with the Suzanne River Restoration Project is underway in an area off Seaway Road.
To ensure the safety of personnel and contractors carrying out this important environmental restoration initiative, the work area will be closed Monday through Friday from 7am to 7pm until October 3, 2026. Community members are asked to respect all posted signage and restrictions during these times.
The project is being undertaken to improve fish habitat and access to the Suzanne River, while also creating pond habitat for turtles, birds, and other wildlife. Work includes excavation to create a pond and restore a more natural curvature to a section of the creek.
The work area is adjacent to the area commonly referred to as the “Shooting Range.” While the MCK understands that the area is commonly used for target shooting, community members are requested not to use the area for these activities during project work periods. This temporary restriction is necessary to protect personnel supervising and conducting the work and to support the safe and efficient completion of this important restoration project.
KEPO and the Public Safety Division thank the community for their cooperation and understanding as these important environmental improvements are carried out safely.
