Temporary closure under Kateri Tekakwitha Island Bridge

Kateri Tekakwitha Island Bridge

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to inform the community that construction activities related to the new Kateri Tekakwitha Island pedestrian bridge project will require a temporary closure of the area beneath the existing infrastructure.

Rice Mohawk Steel, the contractor for the project, will begin work in the area on September 14th, with the closure expected to remain in effect for approximately two (2) weeks.

As a result of the construction work, those who use the Kateri Tekakwitha Island boat launch ramp will not be able to access the seaway by passing under the bridge. Alternatively, access will have to go through the bay area or use the Kahnawà:ke Marina boat launch free of charge.

The scheduling of this work is subject to change based on weather conditions, operational constraints, or work progression. The MCK thanks the community for its patience, understanding, and cooperation while this important infrastructure project is completed.
