Two community members resign from Governance Advisory Team

Press Release

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to inform the community that two (2) community members have resigned from the Governance Advisory Team (GAT). They indicated time constraints and work commitments prevent them from participating as actively as they intended.

Allan Beauvais and Michael Thomas submitted their resignations in Ohiarí:ha/June. The remaining five (5) members are: Darlene Alfred, Heather Jacobs-Whyte, Marnie Jacobs, Carrie-Layne Marquis, and Shotehra Rice.

“We are thankful for the efforts that each member has contributed since the Governance Document Review Project started in January,” said Governance Portfolio Lead Ietsénhaienhs Tonya Perron. “The expertise and variety of input from the Team is invaluable to MCK governance.”

The GAT has been working with the Governance Portfolio Team to review, update and validate governance documents that establish the roles and responsibilities of the MCK Ratitsénhaienhs and guide their conduct as elected officials. The GAT has completed its review of the first document, the Code of Conduct for the MCK Ratitsénhaienhs and the document will undergo community review in the coming weeks.
