Unofficial water sampling reported in community

Public Safety Division Announcement

The Public Safety Division wishes to advise the community of a reported unauthorized water sampling campaign that has been entering homes. These visits, unaffiliated with either Kahnawà:ke Shakotiia’takehnhas Community Services (KSCS) or the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK), have caused unnecessary concern among some community members.

The following are water sampling and inspections programs carried out by KSCS and MCK:

  • Environmental Health Services (EHS), KSCS – offer a residential well water program that includes two bacteriological samples per year and chemical analysis every five years.
  • Kahnawà:ke Environmental Protection Office (KEPO), MCK – conduct outdoor environmental inspections.

Both EHS and KEPO will clearly identify themselves during any official sampling campaigns.

In collaboration with the Kahnawake Peacekeepers, the Public Safety Division urges all residents to remain vigilant. Anyone requesting access to a home should be asked to present valid credentials and official identification.

If you suspect someone is attempting to enter your home without proper identification, please contact the Kahnawake Peacekeepers immediately at 450-632-6505.

Niá:wen for your cooperation in helping to keep our community safe.
