Unveiling of Phase 1 of the new Kahnawà:ke Sports Complex Outdoor Rink

The Sports and Recreation Unit (SRU) of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK), in collaboration with Kahnawà:ke Shakotiia’takehnhas Community Services, Onkwata’karitáhtshera, Kahnawà:ke Mohawks Minor Lacrosse Association (KMMLA), and the Kahnawà:ke Hunters, are pleased to announce the grand opening of the Kahnawà:ke Sports Complex new Outdoor Rink, taking place on Saturday, May 9, from 1pm to 5pm.

The day’s celebrations will begin with a ribbon cutting ceremony, marking the official unveiling of the new rink. Community members and lacrosse enthusiasts alike can enjoy a fun‑filled afternoon that will highlight minor lacrosse athletes, youth activity and health, and community well-being. 

The event will feature local food vendors, information booths from local organizations, and a full lineup of youth‑centered lacrosse games as part of the KMMLA season opener games.

Schedule:

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony – 1pm
KMMLA All‑Star Games
U13 & U15 — 2pm
U9 & U11 — 3pm
(Player of the Game Awards will also be presented)

All Minor Lacrosse players from Kahnawà:ke and Akwesasne with scheduled games that day will be provided with free food as part of the celebration.

In addition to the All‑Star games, the celebration later in the evening will include season‑opening matchups featuring the Kahnawà:ke Hunters vs. Mimico Mountaineers – with the Hunters raising their 2025 Founders Cup Lacrosse Canada National Championship banner.

Community members of all ages are invited to attend and celebrate this exciting new addition to the Kahnawà:ke Sports Complex.

Easter Holiday office closure

Friday, April 3rd & Monday, April 6th, 2026

All administrative offices of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke will be closed.

 

Please note the following changes to Waste Management Department services during this period:

 

  • Friday, April 3rd – Administrative offices closed
  • Monday, April 6th – Waste Management services resume as usual; however, there will be no cardboard drop‑offs
  • Monday, April 6th – Transfer Depot will operate with reduced hours, from 8am to 2pm

 

Garbage pickup service will continue through the holiday without interruption.

 

All essential services will remain operational throughout the office closures. Regular administrative office hours will resume on Tuesday, April 7th, at 8:30am.
