Update on the process for the proposed Kahnawà:ke Tobacco Law

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK), in collaboration with the Tobacco Working Group, wishes to update the community on the status of the proposed Kahnawà:ke Tobacco Law.

The first draft of the proposed Kahnawà:ke Tobacco Law was developed and approved by the community through the Community Decision Making and Review Process. Following, a Legal review on the proposed law revealed that eleven (11) points were changed and now require further discussion with the community. 

In the coming weeks, community engagement opportunities will be offered to provide information on the eleven points and to collect any additional questions, comments, and feedback. This will be followed by an appearance on K1037 to report on the results of the kiosks, including any feedback.

Please note the following engagement events:

  • Tuesday, July 29 – K1037 Tetewathá:ren update
  • Thursday, August 14 –  Kiosk (1 to 4pm) Kahnawà:ke Services Complex lobby
  • Wednesday, August 20 – Kiosk (1 to 4pm) Kahnawà:ke Services Complex lobby
  • Tuesday, August 26 – K1037 Tetewathá:ren 12 – 12:30pm

Monday, June 22nd, 2026

  • No Cardboard drop-offs
  • Transfer Depot will be closed
  • Recycling, compost, and cardboard pickup service will continue as usual

Regular office hours will resume on Tuesday, June 23rd, at 8:30am.

Friday, July 3rd, 2026

Waste Management services are as follows:

  • There will be NO Recycling and Compost collection
  • No cardboard drop offs
  • The Transfer Depot will be closed – regular Transfer Depot hours resume on Saturday, July 4th
  • Household Garbage collection will continue as usual

 

All essential services will remain in operation.

Regular business hours will resume at 8:30am on Monday, July 6th.
