SDU and Caisse Sign Agreement

01/29/2008

The Social Development Unit and the Caisse Populaire Kahnaw:ke would like to inform the community that an agreement has been reached on Home Loans for Kahnawakehr:non accessing mortgages through the MCK On-Demand housing loan program. The two parties will officially sign the agreement in a ceremony at the Caisse Populaire Kahnaw:ke on Thursday, January 31st at 8:30am.

The Caisse Kahnaw:ke is pleased to enter into this joint venture giving Kahnawakehr:non the option of selecting a community based financial institution to provide the resources to build homes for their families. Kahnawakehr:non serving Kahnawakehr:non, said Caisse Manager Mandie Montour.

As part of the Housing Departments recent loan program restructuring, community members will now have yet another option when accessing financing for new home construction or renovations with a 5% down payment. Off-Territory banks not affiliated with the On-Demand program require down payments of 25%.

With all the positive changes to our loan programs, were trying to give community members as many options as possible, stated Housing Coordinator Iris Jacobs. The goal is for clients to get what they want at an affordable rate, when they want it, any time of the year, from a wider choice of loan providers.

An information kiosk will be set up in the lobby of the Caisse on Thursday, January 31st and Friday, February 1st. Those seeking more information can also call the Housing Department at 450 638 0500 or the Caisse Populaire Kahnaw:ke at 450 638 5464.
