Seaway Road Clean Up – April 11, 2025

Iotenatatkweniens ne Onkwana:takon (Waste Management) hosted the Seaway Road Clean Up on April 11, 2025, as part of April Clean Up Month. Fifteen volunteers participated in the event, which aimed to raise awareness and promote community involvement in protecting the land and environment.

Volunteers successfully removed approximately 4.05 tons of litter and debris from a 300-metre stretch of Seaway Road. The cleanup targeted waste from illegal dumping, including construction materials, mattresses, TVs, and plastics, with the majority of litter consisting of plastic bottles and cardboard.

The event was organized by the Waste Management Communications & Events Coordinator with support from the Compost Facility Operator. Promotion efforts included MCK public service announcements, social media outreach, and internal communications. Media interest was strong, with coverage from Eastern Door, Ioriwa:se, and K103.

There was high cross-departmental collaboration with staff from KEPO, the Capital Unit, Waste Management, and the Town Garage participating.

The initiative was well-received and highlighted our commitment to environmental stewardship.
