The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) has been informed by the Ministère des Transports du Québec that work to install new overhead signs on Routes 138 and 132 will begin on Monday, June 16, 2025.
The phased project includes dismantling old signage and installing three new overhead signs, one on Route 138 and two on Route 132 near the base of the ramps on the Kahnawà:ke side of the Mercier Bridge. The first phase, involving the removal of signs on Route 138 West and Route 132 East, will take place overnight from 9:30pm to 5am and is expected to last approximately three weeks.
Motorists should expect lane reductions, detours, and occasional overnight closures, including:
- Full night-time closures in one or both directions on the Route 138/132 Service Road toward La Prairie (R-132 East/A-30/A-15) and Châteauguay (R-138 & R-132 West).
- The down ramp from the Mercier Bridge to La Prairie (R-132 East/A-30/A-15) will remain open.
- Lane widths will be reduced to 3.2 meters during the work.
On Route 132:
- Overnight counter-flow traffic will be in effect between the Old Malone Highway/Old Depot Road area and the base of the ramps.
- One of two lanes will be closed for several days approximately 500 meters west of Old Malone Highway/Old Depot Road.
Additional closures are planned for late July 2025, with details to be announced once confirmed.
Please drive with caution, slow down when entering construction zones, and respect the Move-Over Law when emergency lights are flashing.
The MCK reminds the public that these works are subject to change due to weather conditions, operational constraints, or work progression.
