The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) is pleased to announce that the Governance Advisory Team (GAT) has completed a review of the Code of Conduct for the Council of Chiefs (Code), now referred to as the Code of Conduct for the MCK Ratitsénhaienhs. It is the first of five (5) governance documents that establish the roles and responsibilities of the Ratitsénhaienhs and guide their conduct as elected officials.
The Code will now undergo a 30-day community review beginning today, Thursday, 21 Seskéha/August 2025, and ending on Friday, 19 Seskehkó:wa/September 2025. This engagement phase of the process will allow the community to review, provide feedback on and validate the proposed amendments to the Code.
Community members can provide their feedback by emailing feedback@mck.ca by 19 Seskehkó:wa/September 2025. Additionally, two (2) information kiosks will be held to provide an opportunity for community members to participate in an in-person overview of the Code on the following dates: 2, Seskehkó:wa/September 2025 from 4pm to 7pm and 4, Seskehkó:wa/September 2025 from 1pm to 4pm. Both information kiosks will be held at the Golden Age Club.
There are two (2) versions of the Code available for review: the current, in-force version (Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke Code of Conduct for the Council of Chiefs), and the updated version (Code of Conduct for the MCK Ratitsénhaienhs) with the proposed amendments from the GAT. Both documents can be accessed online or by hard-copy at the MCK Main Building.
The GAT was formed in March of 2025 and is composed of the following community members: Darlene Alfred, Heather Jacobs-Whyte, Marnie Jacobs, Carrie-Layne Marquis and Shotehra Rice.
