Final EGD Community Engagement Report now available for review

Press Release

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) Gaming Working Group (GWG) wishes to inform the community that, the final Community Engagement Report on the proposed expansion of Electronic Gaming Devices (EGDs), along with the feedback received to date, is now available for community review.

Ratitsénhaienhs met on June 9th to review the report and the Kahnawà:ke Gaming Commission (KGC) will soon begin the first stage of the application process to assess the viability of additional EGD facilities within the Territory.

“The first phase of the application process assesses potential applications based on the viability of the proposed location. There will be a separate notice from KGC coming out soon regarding the opening of the application process,” said Ratsénhaienhs Paul Rice. “The KGC has improved its regulations over the last year and tightened the requirements for licensing. The benchmark for a viable project is very high and simply because the rigid application process will be opened does not guarantee any new licenses will be issued.”

Community members are encouraged to read the report and can also stop by MCK reception to pick up and review available information packages. Packages are prepared upon request by contacting Gregory Robertson-Ryan at 450-632-7500 ext. 68240.

The GWG will continue to engage on how to maximize benefits to the community from gaming as well as other areas identified in the Engagement Report.
