The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) and Governance Advisory Team (GAT) wish to inform the community that the Feedback Report on the Code of Conduct for the MCK Ratitsénhaienhs (Code) is now available for viewing on the MCK website. The report compiles feedback received during the engagement phase of the process. It also includes responses from the GAT to the feedback received.
The purpose of the engagement phase was to provide the community with an opportunity to review, give feedback and validate the proposed amendments to the Code. The Code was posted online for a 30-day review period from August 21 to September 19, 2025. During this time, the GAT participated in two kiosks, a discussion on K1037, as well as in-person meetings, upon request.
The Code was presented to the MCK Ratitsénhaienhs at a strategic discussion held on October 7th and is scheduled for formal approval at the Council meeting on October 14th.
“We are pleased of the feedback received during the engagements with the community,” said GAT member Marnie Jacobs. “Further amendments were made as a result of the perspectives we heard from Kahnawa’kehró:non and it really fine tuned the initial amendments made by our team.”
As the Code nears formal approval, the second of five governance documents to undergo review by the GAT is the Terms of Reference for Ratsénhaienhs and Ietsénhaienhs.
The GAT was formed in March of 2025 and is composed of the following community members: Darlene Alfred, Heather Jacobs-Whyte, Marnie Jacobs, Carrie-Layne Marquis and Shotehra Rice.
