KEPO to host Suzanne River restoration workshop

The Kahnawà:ke Environment Protection Office (KEPO) invites the community to attend a workshop on upcoming Suzanne River restoration works. The event will be held on Tuesday, February 24th, from 5pm to 8pm in the Kahnawà:ke Legion Branch 219 Basement.

The workshop will focus on restoration work planned for late summer 2026 along the lower portion of the Suzanne River behind Kahnawà:ke Survival School (KSS). This area was heavily altered during the construction of the St. Lawrence Seaway, limiting access for native fish and reducing habitat quality.

KEPO staff and a representative from GeoMorphix Ltd. will present preliminary restoration plans, including channel modifications, rubble removal, invasive plant control, and the planting of native vegetation and trees. Community feedback will help refine and finalize the plans in the coming weeks.

The project is part of KEPO’s Entewahnekahserón:ni’ – We Are Rejuvenating the Water initiative, funded by Fisheries and Oceans Canada through the Aquatic Ecosystem Restoration Fund.

A meal and refreshments will be provided.

For more information, contact KEPO at 450‑635‑0600 or environmentprotection@mck.ca.
